Louisiana Notary Bond – $50,000 Requirement

Louisiana’s House Bill 259 changes notary requirements statewide. Effective February 1, 2026:

• All commissioned notaries must carry a $50,000 surety bond issued by an authorized surety company.
• The previous option to use Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance in lieu of a bond will no longer be allowed.
• The bond requirement applies to non-attorney notaries, title company staff notaries, and independent notaries alike.
• If you currently have E&O instead of a bond, you must switch before the effective date.
